A letter from the editors-in-chief.

UnEarth: Perspectives, Issue 2, 23/4

Perspectives of place, self, and time shape how we view the world.

Think of the phrase “What if the colour red in your head isn’t the same as the red in my head?”. Our lives craft our perspectives, making us individuals with varied and valuable approaches to thinking.

The environment, society and sustainability are multi-faceted topics that can be approached from many angles. An awareness of the different perspectives relevant to these themes is essential in ensuring balanced, inclusive discussions that can lead to positive action.

To promote greater consideration of the role of perspective in environmental topics, our articles this semester fall under different ‘perspectives’, our collections for UnEarth Issue 2, 23/24 : An Environmental Perspective, An Economic Perspective, A Well-being Perspective, Home’s Perspective, Challenging Perspectives.

Our brilliant writers have written fantastic, punchy pieces this semester, each with an individual voice glowing through! From TikTok as a news source, to prison abolition, eco-tourism and makeup, this issue digs into varied topics, presenting new perspectives and challenging existing ones.

Yet another layer of perspective is brought to each article through its individual associated art piece, created by our wonderful artists who communicate their own takes on the topics through their diverse artistic styles and use of media.

We hope you enjoy exploring UnEarth: Perspectives, Issue 2, 23/24, and that you take something from it, whether that be new knowledge, the memory of a particularly quippy line or engaging art piece, or a new perspective.

Congratulations to the entire UnEarth team of writers, artists and editors for your dedicated work this semester, and thank you (reader) for engaging with it!

We hope to see you again for UnEarth Issue 1 24/25.

Bella Roberts and Nora Krogsgaard.
