Dear Readers,

UnEarth is, first and foremost, a vehicle for expression. Our magazine intends to carve out our own little space in the world of publication, where creativity and passion meet a dedication to raising awareness about our contemporary Environmental Crisis. Providing students with a space to amplify their fears and hopes, enhance their relational values, and gain experience in the media landscape culminates into our underlying ethos: to give the University of St Andrews community a chance to grasp activism with their heads, their hands and their hearts.

In Volume 5.2, we aim to highlight the overwhelming variety present in Sustainable Development. Using our four chapters, Sowing, Sprouting, Rooting, and Flowering, we present action as multi-faceted, taking place on multiple scales, each with their own complexities and layers. Each collection presents activism and positive change from a unique angle, and using this we aim to underscore that there is no one right way to make a difference. Activism is first and foremost about knowing what is right, and choosing to carry these values with you in your everyday.

We hope to lead you on a journey of enquiry. As you move through our chapters, each representing a stage of a plant’s journey, we hope that your understanding of environmentalism will grow and flourish in the same way. We hope to spark curiosity, raise questions, and teach you about this incredible world, by way of which you might just learn something about yourself.

Thank you for taking the time to engage with our work.

We would like to extend our gratitude to our amazing team of writers, artists, and editors. Thank you for your dedication to this magazine, advocacy for nature, and being a part of this beautiful community.
